Information
Franz Kaka is a contemporary art gallery based in Toronto, Canada. Founded in 2016 by Aryen Hoekstra, it grew out of the city’s artist-run and DIY histories into a programme with a distinctive voice and an expanding international reach. The gallery is committed to artists whose work is materially curious, formally rigorous, and conceptually complex.

Working across painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation, the gallery’s artists frequently move between media to explore themes including embodiment, inheritance, identity, memory, and transformation. Their practices are diverse, but share an attention to how meaning is shaped by material, atmosphere, and the frameworks through which images and objects circulate. Franz Kaka maintains close, long-term relationships with its artists, supporting the development of new work and situating it in ways that deepen its force and legibility.

Many of the gallery’s artists have been included in major biennials and exhibitions at leading international institutions, and their work is held in significant public and private collections in Canada and abroad. Alongside its year-round programme in Toronto, Franz Kaka participates in international art fairs including Art Basel, Frieze London, and Art Basel Miami Beach, extending the reach of its artists through exhibitions, acquisitions, and sustained institutional relationships.

Franz Kaka is a member of the International Galleries Alliance (IGA), the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA), and AGAC.

The gallery does not review unsolicited artist submissions or proposals.
