Information
Franz Kaka is a contemporary art gallery based in Toronto, Canada. Founded in 2016 by Aryen Hoekstra, it has grown from the city’s history of artist run and DIY spaces into a platform for contemporary art with an expanding international reach. The gallery is dedicated to exhibitions that are materially curious and conceptually complex, providing opportunities for sustained engagement and reflection.
The gallery represents artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation, often moving fluidly between media to explore themes including embodiment, inheritance, and transformation. Franz Kaka maintains close relationships with its artists, supporting their development and facilitating collaborations that complement the evolution of their work. Many have been featured in major biennials and exhibitions with leading international institutions, and their work is held in notable public and private collections in Canada and abroad.
In addition to its year-round programming in Toronto, the gallery participates in prominent international art fairs including Art Basel, Frieze London, and Art Basel Miami Beach. It maintains close relationships with curators, collectors, and institutions, fostering exhibitions, acquisitions, and context-driven projects that enhance its artists' global presence.
Franz Kaka is a member of the International Galleries Alliance (IGA), the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA), and AGAC.
The gallery does not review unsolicited artist submissions or proposals.
